Traditional Thai Yoga Massage Cornwall

Deeply rooted in Buddhist tradition, Thai Yoga Massage is as much meditation & loving kindness in action as it is a highly efficient therapy for body & mind.

This traditional massage combines elements of yoga, acupressure, energy healing, reflexology, meditation & Ayurveda. By balancing the energy system, body & mind are brought back to their natural state of balance, creating a harmonious environment for natural healing.

The therapist uses her thumbs, palms, elbows, knees & feet to apply acupressure, rhythmic rocking & gentle yoga stretches, which relaxes the physical body, releases blocked energy & restores mind-body balance.

TYM is traditionally carried out on a futon on the floor with the client dressed in light comfortable clothing. A session lasts between 90 mins - 120 mins, however if you are a little short on time we can also offer a session of 60 mins.

Thai Yoga Massage uses an energy line system — the "Sip Sen" — the vital life force that is called "Prana" in Sanskrit, "Chi" in Chinese & "Ki" in Japanese, travels through these lines, supplying the body with the energy that is necessary for it's survival & healthy functioning. Blockages in this life force cause aches, pains & disease. Thai Yoga Massage assists the body in releasing blocked energy & frees the body's healing potential, restoring balance & harmony.

Originating in India & strongly linked to Buddhism, Thai Yoga Massage is a mindfulness based therapy where the practitioner has trained their own mind through meditation, resulting in a deeper sense of "mettá" - pali for "loving-kindness". It is said to be "the physical application of loving-kindness".

The benefits of Thai Yoga Massage are countless. By freeing the flow of vital energy in the body, Thai Massage can improve posture, breathing, flexibility, digestion & circulation. Muscles are stretched, inner organs toned & emotional & nervous tension is reduced. Often a deep sense of peace can be experienced during & after a treatment.

Although the main emphasis in the practice of Thai Yoga Massage is usually on prevention (as in the Thai tradition, all disease manifests first on the energy level & can be treated there before it becomes physical), it can also be of great therapeutic benefit for a range of specific problems & conditions, such as headaches, back pain, digestive disorders, shoulder & neck tension, joint pain, insomnia & other stress related conditions.

Traditional Thai Yoga Massage is performed fully clothed, so please wear light comfortable clothing for your treatment.

Thai Yoga Massage does not require the receiver to be flexible, athletic or strong. Each treatment is designed to suit client needs. As the basic principle is to balance the energy body with palming & thumbing techniques, this form of body work can be done on anyone: young, old, healthy or unwell.

Thai Yoga Massage's wonderful yoga-based stretches are secondary & do not need to be integral to the treatment. However, for those able to receive them, these effective & beautiful stretches really enhance the experience & benefits.

The session includes a 5 minute assessment at the beginning - where your therapist will be able to use the information provided to tailor a treatment specifically to your needs.

There is also 5 minutes at the end to allow yourself to have a moment of quiet before making your way back gradually into the real world.

If this is your first session with urban metta then the initial assessment will be a little longer.

There is no oil used in a Thai Yoga Massage, so you can remain fully clothed throughout. Avoid heavy meals & alcohol two hours before your treatment.

As with all massage - make sure you drink plenty of water afterwards!

Mettá is the Pali word for Loving-Kindness... Thai Yoga Massage is exactly that - applied loving kindness.
